The game is played with any number of players, although the ideal number is six or eight players. The total amount of bets made by all players in a given deal is called the pot. The player with the best poker hand wins the pot. The person with the lowest poker hand loses their bet. However, a player can win the pot by betting more money than the other players have.
Different types of poker games have different betting structures. Some are fixed-limit and others are pot-limit, or no-limit. In fixed-limit poker, each player must bet a fixed amount before they can raise. A player cannot raise more than the limit if they have exposed pairs.
